Famous for its beautiful sandy beaches, it’s a popular resort destination and a great place to meet local Dominicans and shop in neighborhood businesses. Take the funicular up the mountain behind the city to see a replica of the original Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. At the top, there’s a short trail with scenic viewpoints, a cave, and a small lagoon-like pool. You can also visit Fortaleza San Felipe, a historic fort overlooking the main bay. In front of the fort, a large grassy area offers a pleasant spot for a picnic with views of the water.
